I hope you’re enjoying the summer and have time enough for at least for one vacation. I wanted to let you know that earlier this week the board of the East Texas PCC met to elect it’s officers for the 2009-2010 year. For me, personally, it was a time for changes.
I’m very happy to announce that Penny Hummel will be our new Industry Co-Chair. Penny works at Hudson Printing in Longview where she works with many local mailers as well as local postal officials. She joined the board several years ago and in that time has created and assumed the position of editor for our East Texas PCC newsletter, been on-site photographer at many PCC functions, and done a myriad of behind-the-scenes functions to enhance the PCC and make sure events run smoothly. In short, she has proven she cares about the mailers of East Texas and enhancing the relationship between them and the postal service. I hope you will all join me in wishing Penny a heart-felt CONGRATULATIONS in her new duties!
I have loved my time as co-chair, but feel strongly that it needs to be a group effort with multiple people rotating in leadership positions to keep fresh ideas coming. I’ll be staying on as Industry Vice Co-Chair to lend my support to Penny. Tom Few, Longview Postmaster, will continue as Postal Co-Chair and he will be joined by Kelvin Dansby, Big Sandy Postmaster, as Postal Vice Co-Chair. I want to give a special thanks to Tom of the many hours of work he’s put towards planning and improving the East Texas PCC. I’ve enjoyed working with you, Tom!
Kay Butts, Southside Bank, has served as our secretary for 18 years. (That’s not a typo – 18 years!!) Kay has quietly worked for years keeping notes from meetings, making sure legal documents are signed and, perhaps most importantly, bringing donuts to most meetings! Kay has graciously offered to continue serving on the board and will help in other capacities as we need her. Kay – we can’t possibly thank you enough for all you’ve done through the years to make the East Texas PCC the success it is today. Thank you for continuing with us as we strive to become even better.
Taking up duties as the new Secretary will be new board member, Daphne Foster with The Country Mailer. Welcome to the board Daphne! We appreciate you taking on the duties of secretary.
Joe Davis, Global Mailing, has agreed to continue as our Treasurer. He, like Kay, has quietly worked hard for many years making sure our financial documents are in order, paying invoices and coordinating bank business. Joe, we also thank you for your many years of service.
Other “at large” board members include returning board member Tim Shaughnessy, Hudson Printing, and new board members Gary Hagar, The Country Mailer and Dennis Wheat, Arista Business Systems. Gary has stepped up to take on the duty of coordinating improvements to our website www.easttexaspcc.org.
I also wanted to give a special word of thanks to two special people who also do a lot of unseen work to make our events run smoothly: USPS employees Alecia Albert and Jane Dollar. Thank you, ladies! We couldn’t do it without you!
We are in need of someone to help with the newsletter. If that’s a skill set you possess please consider lending a hand. Newsletters are published quarterly and you wouldn’t have to write the articles, just do the layout and possibly coordinate printing and mailing if possible.
National PCC Day will be held September 16, 2009 at the East Texas P&DC for. Current plans call for plant tours, mailer classes, as well as a lunch to be served during the telecast. Don’t miss it!
